There is only ONE HEALER.
Well, … maybe two, but one is created by the other. So, for all intents and purposes, the ONE and only HEALER is the ONE and only GOD: JESUS.
“I am the LORD that healeth thee.” (Exodus 15:26 KJV)
One of the names of God is embedded in this verse: Jehovah-Rapha. Rapha is the transliterated word from Hebrew which means “to heal.” It also means to “take care of” in the sense of nursing someone to health, or seeing to their needs, to “make fresh, purified, and repaired.”
“Jehovah-Rapha has the power to heal physically (2 Kings 5:10), emotionally (Psalm 34:18), mentally (Daniel 4:34), and spiritually (Psalm 103:2–3). Jesus Christ, when He came as God-in-flesh, brought all power of the eternal God with Him. He proved that He was Jehovah-Rapha—the Great Physician who heals the sick. In Galilee, Jesus went from town to town, “healing every disease and sickness among the people”—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Every day, in every way, Jesus proved Himself to be Jehovah-Rapha in the flesh.”*
I am not a health professional, but this is my observation: Jesus is the ONLY HEALER.
You may ask, “What about doctors, surgeons, therapists, and homeopaths? Doesn’t God sometimes give these people particular knowledge and skills, which might be interpreted as gifts of healing? What about medicines, herbs, supplements, surgeries, therapy, and exercises? Don’t they heal our bodies?”
They may be used by God to HELP the process, yes, but they can only treat our bodies’ ailments—they cannot heal them. An antibiotic may kill an infection, but only GOD can restore health. In the end, NO person, prescription, plant, or procedure—NOTHING and NO ONE but God, and God alone, can actually HEAL. (Read on.)
The GOD who created us from nothing, who knows our DNA code because He wrote it Himself, who “intricately and skillfully formed (our bodies) [as if embroidered with many colors]” in the womb with His own hand—He is the only one who is qualified to HEAL.
WHO, then, is the second “healer”? None other than the human body itself, designed and created by God to self-HEAL. It’s so true—we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14)
As soon as a baby is conceived, and God has infused LIFE into the conjunction of human cells, the genius of the “self-healing” process begins. Cells begin to multiply, and one type of cell is created from another type of cell. Very quickly, billions of cells—each a tiny database of genetic information—start to sort themselves and become cells of tissue, muscle, bone, hair, organs, and blood—all reproducing themselves for the lifetime of the body. The natural process of the body’s “growth” is, in a sense, the initial evidence of its self-healing power—and medical science will NEVER understand or duplicate this miracle.
The body’s propensity for self-healing is the hallmark of the Creator’s design. God is the only true HEALER, but He has included a bit of that amazing power in every cell of every human He has created. We see it work every time we scrape a knee, get over a cold, or have a broken bone mend. What a marvel! Even so, it’s still true that all cells in the human body answer to ONE higher power, with a higher plan, and they cannot exercise any of their innate healing capabilities without license from Him.
Does God answer prayer? Yes, EVERY time! Does God heal? Absolutely! Irrefutable evidence abounds. I can personally testify of His miraculous, instantaneous, and permanent healing power in my own life. Multiple times.
Here’s the FACT: there is NO injury, disease, or disability that is bigger than God or beyond His power to heal. “Incurable” is not in His vocabulary—He has a permanent cure for EVERY sickness—even the viruses that have not yet been discovered. He made us—He wrote the code—He alone has the power to fix us. He can recreate organs and bones, rebuild systems, and restore function. If a cell is damaged, invaded, or goes renegade, He can create a new cell to replace it. He does it every day—in every perfect new baby. “This is an easy thing in the eyes of the LORD.” (2 Kings 3:18 NIV)
Another fact: God is not limited to any timeframe. His healing may be immediate—incremental—or eventual, but whenever or however healing takes place, it’s always GOD who ultimately does it.
WHEN GOD HEALS, He does it according to His inerrant Word, His sovereign Will, and in answer to our prayer, not our demands. It’s always part of a larger plan than for just improving our health—for a higher purpose than what we can see now. We can trust that God will heal us—and “if not,” we will still trust Him. (Daniel 3:17-18) He doesn’t want us living forever in imperfect human flesh, and on that day when God does NOT heal us, we will understand. Then we’ll KNOW that our lives on earth were never meant to be the destination, but merely a stepping stone to GLORY.
