If you know, you know.
This phrase has become popular as internet slang, or, more specifically, as a brief form in conversation with someone that has inside knowledge of a matter, especially through experience. No matter what the conversation is about, true knowledge trumps feelings, opinions, intuition, or naive hunches.
KNOWING IS POWER. It’s not “if you FEEL, you know” or “if you THINK, you know” or even “if you BELIEVE, you know.” Feelings, whims, unproven beliefs, baseless opinions, or even observations cannot stand up to the rock-solid confidence of KNOWLEDGE gained through a combination of real first-hand experience, facts, testing, study, sage wisdom, and personal understanding.
If you know—you KNOW.
The blind man mentioned in the Gospel of John, chapter 9, caused quite a stir. Jesus and his disciples had come by where he sat begging. The LORD saw him, had compassion on him, performed a miracle—and suddenly, the man could SEE.
Observers in the area started asking questions: “Hey, isn’t that the BLIND guy? How did this happen? Was he really born blind? A healer?—who was he? Was he a prophet? Hmmph. He did it on the sabbath, so he is obviously a sinner.”
The once-blind man answered them, “Whether He be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I KNOW, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.” (John 9:25 KJV) All the speculation, suspicion, and false assumptions could not stand in the face of the ONE with EXPERIENCE. “Once I was blind. Now I see. This I KNOW!”
This shines light on what real FAITH is: PERSUASION and confidence in the irrefutable EVIDENCE that JESUS is GOD and that He IS Who He says He IS. It is the substance of KNOWING God. It is built on the authority of His Word, the corroboration of the Holy Spirit, and by the solid support of real-life, real-time experiences, facts, individual study, the wisdom of sage advice, personal testimonies, and (often) revelation.
Faith says: If you KNOW, you KNOW.
- If you KNOW the power of GOD—His loving care and forgiveness—then you KNOW what only He can do.
- If you KNOW the power of prayer, then you KNOW what prayer can and WILL accomplish. It’s REAL. If He answered your prayer yesterday, you KNOW He’ll do it again TODAY.
- If you KNOW the Word of God, then you KNOW the comfort, guidance, caution, inspiration and outright JOY found in its pages. You KNOW the relevance it holds for every situation.
- If you KNOW from His Word what God has instructed us to do to be saved from sin—and you’ve obeyed and continue to walk in obedience—then you KNOW you’re saved.
- If you KNOW that Jesus was THERE for and with you yesterday, then you KNOW He’ll be THERE for you, and with you, TOMORROW.
- If you KNOW He’s healed you before, then you KNOW He knows your hurt today and your healing WILL COME.
- If you KNOW the blessing of giving back to GOD—how that you cannot OUT-GIVE HIM—then you KNOW to continue willingly and cheerfully investing in His Kingdom.
- If you KNOW that He knows, He cares, and He is able—then you KNOW He’s in this moment, this dilemma, this pain with you RIGHT NOW. If He’s delivered you before, He’ll deliver you AGAIN. If He’s been faithful before, He’s faithful STILL.
- If you KNOW that He’s led you thus far in your journey, then you KNOW He’ll lead you all the way HOME!
IF YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW!
This is FAITH talking:
- “I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him!” (2 Timothy 1:12 KJV)
- “I know what I KNOW! I’ve come too far. I’ve seen too much. I’ve felt too much. I KNOW too much!”
- “All the arguments from all the institutions of learning in all the world cannot disprove what I have received by experience and revelation from the LORD of GLORY through His SPIRIT and His WORD.”
- “If you knew what I KNOW, then YOU’D know, too! You’d know firsthand the comfort that comes when you KNOW that He knows that you know that He knows. Whatever the crisis! It’s not pride; it’s absolute PERSUASION. It’s standing quietly in His presence, completely “convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return].” (Philippians 1:6 AMP)”
When doubt confronts faith, FAITH says: “KNOW THIS:
- “Your doubts can’t make me doubt what I KNOW.
- “Your questions can’t make me question what I KNOW.
- “Your fear can’t make me forget what I KNOW.
- “Your disbelief, cynicism, and intellectual arrogance can’t make a DENT in what I absolutely KNOW.” “For I KNOW that my Redeemer liveth …” (Job 19:25 KJV)
If you know, you KNOW—and that’s all there is to it.
