A Memorial of Faith

YOUR testimony ROCKS!

In the fourth chapter of Joshua, we read about the miraculous crossing of the Jordan River by the children of Israel. We remember that God instructed that each of the twelve tribes of Israel take a large stone from the riverbed, and Joshua set up those stones—each tribe, a stone—on the riverbank at Gilgal as a monument to God’s faithfulness to their family tree. It was to remain a LANDMARK—a tangible testimony to the power of God so that they, and their children … and their children’s children … would always REMEMBER.

As a Jesus-name, Spirit-filled believer, you are a living landmark. Your faith is a tower of testimony declaring the goodness of God and the truth of His Word to the flat habitat of unbelief in our world. Every healing, deliverance, and victory adds to your faith, and every declaration of that faith is a stone that raises your praises a little higher for all around you—and those who come after you—to see. “They shall abundantly utter the memory of Thy great goodness, and shall sing of Thy righteousness.” (Psalm 145:7 KJV)

What about YOUR FAMILY’s “memorial of faith”?

Is yours a multi-generational family of believers? Then your faith memorial is already an impressive landmark. Place YOUR rock carefully. Be sure YOUR individual testimony is a steady stone, balanced and firmly set on things eternal. Remain faithful to your family’s heritage of trust in God’s Word, so others who come after you will not totter and fall. Many times, a tiny stone at the top of a tall stack, when added carelessly, cannot hold its place, causing multiple layers to topple with it.

“Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.” (Proverbs 22:28 KJV)

Are you new in the faith yourself? Then pledge to be the first generational stone in your own family memorial. Fix your heart to provide that firm and steady foundation that will ensure a grounded and stable testimony for you and for generations after you.

Every rock in a stack of stones is different, with different features and strengths. With each stone, the stack gets a bit higher and more visible—and its stability a bit more precarious. It takes effort to stay balanced and secure.

As the values of the world wax worse and worse, there will be those who try to destroy what God has built. Evil forces abound to cause the monument of faith to wobble—for generational faith to fail. Such a testimony ruins Satan’s habitat. He hates the family that has remained faithful—standing through sun and storm—declaring “Great is Thy Faithfulness” through the years. He only wants to kick such a family memorial down to nothing but a rubble of scattered rocks on the beach.

My friend, Mary Loudermilk, made a great point when she recently wrote, “Would the Israelites at the time of the Judges have been so easily led in false worship if the previous generation had been more intentional in passing on their knowledge of God and His commandments? (Judges 2:20-12)

Beware! In order to stand, each generation can, and MUST, declare “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed.” (Psalm 57:7 KJV). They must determine to stay true to their testimony by balancing their beliefs in the One True God and setting them solidly in the Word of the LORD that stands ETERNAL and will NEVER fail.

“For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations.” (Psalm 119:89,90 KJV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, I am determined to be “steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work (and the Word) of the LORD,” (1 Corinthians 15:58 KJV) so as to endure and not to cause to topple the TESTIMONY of the enduring, faithful heritage of GOD. “You, O Lord, shall endure forever, and the remembrance of Your name to ALL generations.” (Psalm 102:12 NKJV)
